Collector's Guide to Hot Wheels Errors

Packaging Errors

Packaging errors are the most common production line errors, and in many ways the least interesting. After all, it's not that the car itself has an error - just the packaging.

This first packaging error is pretty minor - there's an extra Speed Points brochure in the package and it's on top of the car. Of course, this is a rare #51 yellow 40s Woodie, so it's pretty special.

A similar error, though a lot less desirable, is this Tropicool Caddy with a wad of tape left inside of the blister.

Cars that are upside down or backwards in the package are very minor errors. Here are some examples:

Note that there are cases where a flipped vehicle isn't an error. As noted before with the Scorchin Scooter, it is sometimes possible to flip a vehicle in the package. You can usually tell when a flipped vehicle could be flipped in the blister with enough shaking.

There are also cases where a car that appears to be backwards in the package, but it actually isn't. While collector # blister packs almost always have the vehicle facing right, the #35 32 Ford Delivery "Early Times" "I Drove" car normally faces left. If you have other examples where this is the case, let me know.

The most common packaging error is the miscard - a card with the wrong vehicle. The following are examples:

The following is another type of miscard:

The Mac Tonight variation was never part of the SuperSpeedway series. The car itself is a Short Track car. This one may end up being called a rare variation, though, since I know of at least three people who own them.

Here's an interesting double error. Not only is this not a Classic Packard, the Hydroplane is missing the flames.
